Spring 2024
It will be 50 years since Margaret graduated from GSA with a DA, and to celebrate, there will be a special exhibition at The Glasgow Gallery in which Margaret's work will feature some of the exquisite locations she has painted through her travels as a tutor.
Meantime, her work can be seen in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Broughty Ferry, Oban, Kirkcudbright, Aberfeldy, Bridge of Allan and St Andrews, covering a considerable amount of Scotland!
If you are looking for something special, do get in touch and we can arrange a meeting at the studio in Comrie, or redirect you to the appropriate galleries who have my work on display. We are also now regularly shipping paintings off safely to all corners of the globe, with an excellent track record for successful journeys without mishaps! So even if you are far away, we can get something out to you!
Thank you to all those 'repeat' collectors who have kept in touch with the new exhibitions - I look forward to meeting many more of you personally, and will be extending an invitation to join our new mailing list very soon.
Best wishes,
Margaret graduated from Glasgow School of Art under the teaching of great Scottish artists, David Donaldson, Leon Morocco, Sandy Goudie & William Robertson, who gave an excellent grounding in traditional oil painting techniques, which Margaret continues to use. Moving to London in the 70's, she discovered the popularity of working in soft pastels, which was very popular for portraiture. On returning home to Scotland in the late '80s, she was immediately inspired by the Scottish landscape and from then her development of using pastels as a serious painting medium began, through working with leading manufacturers in the development of the medium. By mixing pastels - which are pure pigments, with oils or water, she developed the highly paintable qualities that are seen in her work, sometimes diluting to create watercolour techniques, sometimes with oils to create bold painterly brush strokes. Gouache offer a thick opaque consistency which binds with the soft pastel and creates the structural quality of oils, a skill begun in the 16th Century and regarded by many to be as long-lasting, even superior , to oil paints, featuring strength of colour & lightness of touch.
